In the early 1970s, founder Harrell Howell shot his first round of skeet at the request of a friend to improve his score on the dove field. This event was the spark that would ignite a flame years later. He then founded Howell Shooting Supplies, a shooting equipment company based in Enterprise, Alabama.
After retiring from the Army, Harrell began selling guns and reloading supplies from a makeshift shop comprised of a carport and 10x10-foot storage building. This was intended to help offset his expenses as a competitive skeet shooter.
It was during this time that he developed a relationship with Winchester™ as a parts and repair station for their line of auto-loading skeet and trap machines. When Laporte™ joined with Winchester, a new game was introduced with sporting clays. Harrell took advantage of this new opportunity by formulating a great business plan: offering quality equipment with an expansive parts supply and service after the sale by knowledgeable professionals.
It is now 25 years later, the carport has been replaced by two warehouses and the serviceman in a Suburban™ has been replaced by a fleet of service vehicles. Despite these updates, the hallmark of quality equipment and service from reliable professionals will never change.
In 2010, the torch was passed to two of Harrell's sons, Daniel and Corey. Daniel studied management at the University of Alabama, while Corey studied economics at the University of Florida.
